https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxhoejyRtLMWe are a group of 5 or 4 musicians, created in September 2013 with performers from different backgrounds and musical fields, but lovers of swing music, this style of jazz that originated in the United States towards the end of the 1920s, becoming one of the most popular and successful musical genres in the country during the 1930s and consolidating in 1935.
And for 10 years now, in Camp de Tarragona, with the *TgnSwing association, where this musical genre is experiencing strong growth and flourishing. This is the main reason for pursuing a joint project, with dancers and musicians from the area pursuing the same common goal: promoting and promoting this genre.

This QUINTET or QUARTET formation, to take part in any activity or event, uses musical instruments common in jazz, such as a rhythm section consisting of piano, double bass and drums, and the brass of the trumpet and, of course, the voice.
The band's swing approach uses predominantly medium and fast tempos, generalizing melodic riffs (a short phrase repeated several times, with a final crescendo) and freeing the drummer's role from certain restrictions it had until then. The role of soloist takes on importance, with clear, recognizable melodies and energetic solos to get the crowd dancing. The drummer has a special role as the band's driving force. The female voice creates the main melody, with lyrics and a message clearly expressed by the composer.

We are a trio formation from different backgrounds and musical fields but a lover of Jazz Manouche music, following the tradition of Old New Orleans Jazz, Blues and Swing, this style of jazz that originated in the United States towards the end of the 1910s, becoming one of the most popular musical genres. 30´s & 40´s.
This ensemble can be used at any musical event or activity, and uses instruments common in jazz, such as a rhythm section consisting of double bass, guitar, and drum percussion, and the brass of the trumpet and the much-loved color of the voice.
The band's swing preferentially uses medium and fast tempos, generalizes melodic riffs (as a resource of tension, it is a short phrase repeated several times, with a final crescendo) and frees the role of percussion from certain restrictions that it had had until then.
And the role of the soloist becomes important, with clear, recognizable melodies and energetic solos to make you dance.
The rhythmic base has special relevance as the driving force of the band.
A highly acclaimed repertoire with a sound inspired by the Jazz Manouche of Django Reinhardt, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzerald... as well as his signature version of rock songs with a swing sound (Chuck Berry, Rolling Stones, Guns N'Ros, Purple...).

https://xavidelasalud.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Small-River-Dixie.mp4Twenty-six years ago, a band, Small River Dixie, was born in the city and in the birthplace of the Dixieland Festival. It has been the seed and origin of most of the Dixieland musicians in Tarragona and other jazz and swing bands in our region.
They claim they wouldn't exist if it weren't for the Tarragona Dixieland Festival. They decided to participate in 1999, after some young people from the Banda Unión Musical had founded the group some time earlier.
The group has been performing its music for over 25 years in over 500 stage concerts and New Orleans brass band-style parades.
From vintage Dixieland from the 1910s and 1920s to contemporary 21st-century music, from Swing to Funk, including Latin jazz, and even covers of the famous pasodobles by Amparito Roca, Michael Jackson, and Maestreta.
Dixieland gives them good vibes, and they show it in their performances.
We offer several types of shows:
SMALL RIVER DIXIE
It is a sextet that, due to its versatility, can perform its music on any stage: auditorium, plaza, street, festival, inauguration, social event, etc. The instrumentation's nature (which requires no amplification and is easily transportable) makes it ideal for street performances, where the audience can enjoy the music up close, maintaining direct contact with the musicians. It also complements street parades and a variety of public events, especially those of a festive nature.The band's beginnings, closely linked to traditional Dixieland, open the door to participating in festivals and events dedicated exclusively to this genre.
